Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC)

Veolia manage the two household waste recycling centres (tips) in Southend.

Both sites allow residents to dispose of bulky items and recycle a wide range of household waste.

In the summer both sites have an average of 30,200 visitors every month (that’s around 7,500 visitors every week)

You can check the best time to visit the sites by viewing the webcam on Veolia's website (please allow time for the page to load).

See our Re use page for advice about where you can dispose of your good quality items.

Both sites also have CCTV cameras and ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition). These are used to monitor:

  • the frequency of visits by all vehicles
  • to help identify unauthorised business waste
  • the prevention of crime

Please note:

  • commercial type vehicles can only use the HWRCs between 12 and 4pm on Sundays
  • asbestos is not accepted at the HWRCs, or via any of our kerbside collection services. It has to be disposed of by a specialist contractor as it is a hazardous waste requiring specialist collection and disposal
  • gas cylinders and tyres cannot be accepted at either HWRC

See the Veolia website for further information about the HWRCs.
