If you are on a wheelie bin collection
If you are on a wheelie bin collection
Remember to:
- check your collection day and which bins to put out, on our app
- put the right items in the correct bin (check our directory if you are not sure)
Bins must:
- have the lid down
- be out by 7am on the day of your collection
- be left in an accessible place
- be visible at the front edge of your property
If you do not have a suitable location at the front edge of your property, bins may be left on the public footpath. They need to be as close to your property as possible and returned to your property as soon as collections are complete. Do not leave or store your bins on the public footpath.
Items in your two recycling bins should be loose, clean and dry.
We recommend using a bag/sack for items in the black bin for non-recyclable.
Use the bins provided for your property, including your food waste bin that is collected weekly. If you are missing any bins or caddies, you can request a replacement online.
Bulky waste
Bulky items must not be left on the footpath or verge. They should be booked in for a collection online. They can also be taken to either of our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC).
Bulky waste that is not managed properly, will be classed as fly-tipping.
Why it is important to put your bins out correctly
It helps us and our crews to:
- collect your recycling and non-recyclable waste more efficiently
- collect and recycle as much material as possible, supporting resource management, the circular economy and reducing carbon emissions
- avoid leaving recycling or non-recyclable waste uncollected (rejections)
- reduce litter and prevent animals from ripping bags open
- provide better value for money so funding can support other Council services
What happens if I put my recycling or non-recyclable waste out incorrectly
We understand things go wrong sometimes.
We will always look to engage and educate residents before enforcement action. This will usually be through:
- letters
- notices
- leaflets
- hangers left on your bin
We will always explain what the enforcement process will be if either recycling or non-recyclable waste is still put out incorrectly.
Usually, the enforcement process can result in an £80 Fixed Penalty Notice being issued
If recycling or non‑recyclable waste is dumped or left in the wrong place on public land, it may be treated as fly‑tipping and could lead to a £1000 fixed penalty notice.
