If you are on a wheelie bin collection
Please remember to:
- check your collection day and which bins to present on our resident app
- put the right materials in the correct bin, check our A-Z of recycling and waste if you are not certain
- put your bins, with the lid down, in an accessible point, in a visible location at the front edge of your property, by 7.00am on your scheduled collection day
- if you do not have a suitable location at the front edge of your property, it may be left on the public footpath - as close to your property as possible - and returned to your property as soon as collections have been completed. Please do not leave or store your bins on the public footpath
- please put recycling loose in your two recycling bins
- use the receptacles provided for your property, including your food waste bin that is collected weekly. If you are missing any bins or a box you can request a replacement online
- bulky items must not be left on the footpath or verge. They should be booked in for a chargeable collection by booking online. If it is not, it may be classed as fly-tipping
- bulky items can also be taken to either Leigh Marsh or Stock Road Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC). If it is not, it may be classed as fly-tipping
Why is it important to present your bins correctly?
We can:
- collect your recycling and non-recyclable waste efficiently
- ensure we are collecting and recycling materials, supporting resource management, the circular economy and reducing carbon emissions
- avoid rejecting and not collecting your recycling or non-recyclable waste
- improve the quality of your local environment, reducing litter and animal scavenging
- provide value for money services, allowing funding to be available for other Council services
What happens if I present my recycling or non-recyclable waste incorrectly?
We understand things go wrong sometimes.
We will always seek to engage and educate residents before escalating to enforcement action. This will usually be through letters, notices, leaflets or hangers on your bins. We will always explain what the enforcement process will be if recycling or non-recyclable waste is still put out incorrectly.
Usually the enforcement process can result in a £80 Fixed Penalty Notice being issued.
In some circumstances where waste is dumped or left incorrectly on the other areas or publicly maintained land this can be considered fly-tipping and result in a Fixed Penalty Notice of £1,000.
