Types of parking permit

Business permit

Local businesses and registered charity organisations located within designated permit scheme areas may apply for business permits for vehicles that are essential to their operations.

These permits allow regular parking for business-related purposes but are not intended for employee commuter parking. Each business may hold a maximum of two business parking permits at any one time. Details of the applicable charges can be found on our permit fees and charges page.

Business permit bays are available on the following streets:

  • Ashburnham Road (Zone M)
  • Baxter Avenue (Zone C)
  • Boston Avenue (Zone C)
  • Boston Avenue Service Road (Zone C)
  • Coleman Street (Zone V)
  • Colemans Avenue (Zone H)
  • Guildford Road (Zone V)
  • Canewdon Road (Zone MWB1) - Only nos. 2 to 194 Hamlet Court Road (even) eligible
  • Harcourt Avenue (Zone C)
  • Milton Street (Zone V)
  • Northville Drive (Zone H)
  • Princes Street (Zone M)
  • Prittlewell Street (Zone V)
  • Queen Annes Drive (Zone H)
  • Richmond Drive (Zone H)
  • Rochester Drive (Zone H)
  • St Ann's Road (Zone V)
  • St Helen's Road (Zone MWB2) - Only nos. 119 to 123 eligible
  • Sutton Road (Zone V)
  • Sweyne Avenue (Zone C)

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for this permit, the business must meet the following requirement:

  • location: the business must be located in a non-residential property within one of the designated roads listed on this page

Required supporting documents

The following documents must be submitted alongside the application:

Proof of address

  • a non-domestic rates or business rates bill. (dated within the last 12 months)
  • a business rates relief confirmation (for registered charities only). (dated within the last 12 months)

Proof of vehicle

  • the full DVLA V5C logbook (not just a slip)
  • a certificate of motor insurance, confirming that the vehicle is insured for business use

Covering letter

A letter from the business owner, company secretary, or director, detailing the vehicle information and confirming that the vehicle is essential to the operation of the business. Please note that business permits are intended for vehicles essential to the business and are not for general commuting or personal use at the workplace. (dated within the last 3 months)

Permit application process

Applications may take up to 10 working days to be processed.

It is the applicant's responsibility to allow sufficient time for processing.

Changing your vehicle details

Existing permit holders that require a change to vehicle details must submit an application online.

Permit cancellation and refunds

You may request to cancel your permit at any time.

Refunds will be issued on a pro-rata basis for each full remaining calendar month, subject to an administration fee.

No refund will be provided if less than one full calendar month remains on the permit.

Information provided in your application may be shared with other organisations for the purposes of:

  • fraud prevention and detection
